This journal is a guide to the kokia at Yuni Garden, in the town of Yuni, and to its 2026 season and admission. If you are heading there in autumn, you can check the dates and the fees here first.

Yuni Garden is an English-style flower garden in Yuni, Hokkaido. On its grounds are the Kochia Hills, with 32,000 plants, among the largest such plantings in Hokkaido.

It is about 45 minutes by car from Mori no Auberge Mitsu, and close to New Chitose Airport. You can stop for the autumn colour before or after you check in.

Kochia Hills Turn from Green to Red

On the grounds of Yuni Garden are the Kochia Hills, with 32,000 plants, among the largest such plantings in Hokkaido. The round bushes stand across the whole hill.

What you see changes with the season. In summer the kokia is fresh green, in early autumn it shifts from green to red, and in October it turns deep red.

The red is deepest around October. If you are visiting Yuni in autumn, this is the time to aim for.

The 2026 Season and Winter Closing

For 2026, Yuni Garden is open from 22 May to 3 November. It opens from 10:00 to 16:00, with last admission at 15:30.

It closes on Wednesdays from May through September. The one exception is 23 September, and in October there are no closing days.

After that season ends, the garden shuts for the winter. To see it in autumn, come by 3 November.

Admission, and Tickets Are Cash Only

Admission in 2026 depends on the time of year. For adults it is 800 yen from May to September, and 1,000 yen in October. Adults means junior high school age and above.

Elementary school children and younger enter free. Rates are subject to change; please check the booking site before you travel.

An English-Style Garden with a Market

Yuni Garden is an English-style flower garden in the town of Yuni. Its address is 134-2 Fushimi, Yuni, Yubari District, Hokkaido.

There is a farmers' market on the grounds as well. After the flowers, you can look over local produce.

The garden's official site gives the drive as about 50 minutes from Sapporo and about 35 minutes from New Chitose Airport.

About 45 Minutes by Car from Mitsu

From Auberge Mitsu, Yuni Garden is about 45 minutes by car. Auberge Mitsu is about 30 minutes by car from New Chitose Airport.

You could stop at the garden on the way from the airport, then carry on to the inn. See our Around and Access pages for more.

Check-in is from 15:00 to 19:00, and last admission to the garden is 15:30. So it works well to visit Yuni Garden earlier in the day, then head to the inn.

A Quiet Autumn Night, Three Groups Only

Auberge Mitsu takes three groups a night, in three rooms. The rooms are named Ki, Mi and Tsuki.

Dinner is an omakase kaiseki course that follows the Hokkaido season. Breakfast is served too, except on room-only plans.

The building is a 120-year-old farmhouse, taken down and raised again here. Every room has its own goemon-style soaking tub in Shigaraki ceramic ware. It is not a natural hot spring but heated water, and there is no shared bathhouse.
